Spectacular Success at Streetmarket
September 26, 2019
We had a blast in Blagden and hope you did too. This year’s Streetmarket was bigger and better than ever, thanks in part to our wonderful partners, vendors, and attendees. A jungle of REWILD plants found new homes, a library’s worth of Loyalty Books was browsed, hundreds of Frères Branchiaux candles were sniffed, Little Sesame made enough pita pockets to feed an army, and one foodie-inspired XXIV Carrot community mural was created.
Of course, Streetmarket wouldn’t be possible without the help of good people. Along with our amazing planning and volunteer teams, students from the American Experience Foundation, a non-profit cultivating the next generation of hospitality industry professionals, lent a hand during the event — helping our team and learning about hospitality and events along the way.
Streetmarket by the numbers:
- 3,000 attendees
- 16 local vendors
- Over $25,000 in local business earned
Why did we create Streetmarket? We know small business owner’s trials, tribulations, and triumphs and want to leverage our position in the community to support local makers. Here are highlights from a few of our vendors:
“It was a great way for us to reach a new clientele and we heard from several attendees that they had never seen such diverse books. One girl pointed to Hair Love and yelled “it’s me!” which is the entire reason we do this.” — Loyalty Books
“We sold out within the first half of the event of the inventory that we normally bring to outdoor DC markets — we were shocked and amazed. We had to do a re-stock!” — Frères Branchiaux
“I would like to think of a specific [favorite] moment, but in fact, we were so busy selling tons of stuff that I can’t pick one out. I suppose that makes the whole day a highlight!” — Keepwell Vinegar
We were thrilled to see the success of this year’s market and to spend the day celebrating the people that make this community great. Thanks for joining us at Streetmarket 2019 — we’ll see you next year!
