Raising the Cocktail Bar Experience
Streetsense partnered with renowned mixologist Derek Brown to create the second generation of the Columbia Room, a nationally acclaimed cocktail bar that originated in a Washington, DC storage room.
After its original location closed in 2014, founder Derek Brown turned to Streetsense to redesign Columbia Room for historic Blagden Alley. The experience begins in the Punch Garden — outdoor, airy, and adorned with twinkling lights. Guests are then invited into the Spirits Library, which pays homage to the history of the cocktail. Beyond that is the Tasting Room, where a walnut bar top serves as an altar for cocktails, curving gently to allow large parties to see each other as they look down the bar. The space’s focal feature is an intricate glass tile mural inspired by Northern European engravings depicting alchemy — envisioned by Brown as the original mixology.
