Streetsense Goes Back to School: Strategists Present to VCU Brandcenter

  • News
By The Streetsense Collective

At Streetsense, we believe the best ideas live where strategy and creativity meet. That belief took center stage when Creative Strategist, Tori McCarl, and Senior Digital Strategist, Luisa Davis, returned to their alma mater, VCU Brandcenter — recognized by The One Club for Creativity as the #1 graduate program in the U.S — to showcase and share with current students.

Their message was clear: great strategy doesn’t limit creativity, it leads it. The discipline of strategy can take many forms: creative, digital, experiential, and more. But when grounded in insight, strategy becomes the spark that gives creative ideas meaning, purpose, and staying power.

Strong Ideas Stand on Solid Foundations

It’s easy to chase novelty for novelty’s sake, or “rinse and repeat” what has been successful in the past. But ideas that innovate and resonate are ones anchored in a true understanding of audience, place, and cultural context. Strategy gives creativity focus, helping ideas align on both an emotional and functional level across channels.

Collaboration as a Creative Tool

Collaboration isn’t just part of the process, it is the process. Strategy and creative shouldn’t live in separate silos; when strategists think visually and creatives think critically, the result is work that strikes a chord, echoes, and endures. Tori and Luisa first learned this at Brandcenter, where students from different creative tracks were paired to solve real business challenges — an experience that left a lasting imprint on how they approach collaboration at Streetsense today.

Designing for Connection that Clicks

Whether shaping a brand, a place, or a digital experience, the ultimate goal is always connection. At Streetsense, we intentionally immerse ourselves in the upfront research and strategy so every touchpoint of a brand, from initial concepts to campaigns, websites, collateral, and activations, becomes a meaningful moment of connection between a brand and its audience.

Tori and Luisa shared with students how their passions for strategy and creativity found real-world expression — at a one-of-a-kind agency that blends the realms of branding, advertising, and real estate. Owning a unique space in the industry, Streetsense continues to inspire the next generation as a global leader in place-focused creativity.
