With their largest US multifamily project to date, Skanska had an opportunity to help reshape the Tysons area with Heming. At 28 stories and 410 units, the scale of the building called for an equally grand approach with the interior amenity spaces.
At the building’s entrance a weathered steel stair winds up and around the concierge desk, anchored by runs of floor to ceiling sheer drapery-wrapped around concrete columns, lit by coves providing a gentle glow to the space. The second floor run of amenities offers a gracious variety seating groups across its drapery-flanked bays, from generously scaled lounge seating groups to a tucked away dining table shared by residents. Greenery is found throughout in a mix of vessels, culminating in dense layers of oversized planting surrounded by a three-sided banquette in a coworking suite at the prow of the building.
With a language of elliptical arches meant to collect a variety of smaller rooms and elements into a series of broad architectural gestures, Edit at Streetsense was able to bring a signature look and feel to Heming. A jewel box projection from the building’s podium shows off the stacked amenities, facing the nearby metro entrance and busy streets with warm rings of light bouncing off a burnished gold wallcovering in the ceiling and ribbed globe pendants to create a striking and memorable impression.
Graciously scaled furnishings with visual heft hold their own in the broad spaces of Heming, a mix of new and vintage pieces catching the eye from afar and rewarding a closer look with textural and tactile richness.
Smaller work areas are set inboard, from conference rooms to individual call rooms to deep boucle-upholstered booths, all separated by runs of sound-absorbing rippled velvet drapery.
Tall ceilings and broad vistas are made comfortable with a lower field of lighting, greenery, and a range of inviting furniture groups that work for daily use and special events.
