Last week, we jetted off to Vegas for commercial real estate’s biggest event of the year, ICSC RECon. We had a blast connecting with fellow industry leaders, attending keynote speaker events, and—of course—soaking up the Nevada sun. Check out our highlights from the bustling convention.
This year, we partnered with the Washington DC Economic Partnership and X-Team booths to network and give our fellow conference attendees a boost. We provided branded portable cell phone chargers and bottle openers (it is Vegas, after all!) for a much-needed recharge and refresh throughout the conference. We also debuted the second edition of InSense, an experience-focused trend report highlighting what you need to know in the hospitality, real estate, and restaurant industries. Sunday afternoon, Managing Principals Heather Arnold and Bruce Leonard took to the stage in a packed ballroom at the Westgate Hotel to share their insights on creating thriving mixed-use developments. Heather acknowledged that, due to the rapid changes in the retail industry, it’s challenging to build retail spaces that last 100 years. Bruce emphasized that planning a successful mixed-use development is not about leasing or designing the space but instead about creating an amenity driver. At the MAXI Awards, the Peterson Companies and Downtown Silver Spring took home a MAXI Silver for OUTBOX, a dynamic outdoor workspace. Our team members at Delucchi Plus were instrumental in the visioning and marketing of the first-of-its-kind experiential workspace—learn more about the project here.
This year, we were proud sponsors of the Bisnow Beltway Bash, hosted at the Tao Nightclub. We toasted the town and drank it all in with cheeky cocktail napkins and custom Snapchat filters, while networking with the DMV’s top commercial real estate professionals.
Throughout the conference, we had the opportunity to experience a variety of engaging exhibits and keynote speakers. We proudly displayed our architecture and planning work at the Development Showcase in the South Hall and enjoyed watching live art in the North Hall. Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak was a standout keynote speaker who inspired us by proclaiming that “every time you do a project, your mind advances” and encouraged the crowd to streamline processes and reach end goals with fewer parts.
It was a jam-packed conference, but we always leave ICSC energized, armed with innovative insights, and ready to tackle new projects. We’re already looking forward to next year!
