The most important thing we do at Streetsense is create community. Now more than ever we’re all relying on each other — relying on each other to keep ourselves safe, for support, and more. Like we mentioned in our statement yesterday, the fabric of our society is being temporarily altered, an alteration that has had an outsized negative effect on already underserved populations and the hospitality and service industry.
Hospitality is what we do, incredibly near and dear to our hearts, and we wanted to round up some of our favorite resources to spur donations. For those who can give, please support those who need it in this uncertain time!
Hook Hall Helps
Hook Hall and the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Foundation (RAMW) have partnered to create a worker’s relief fund, distributing care kits and family meals for industry workers in Washington D.C.
DC Virtual Tip Jar
DC’s Virtual Tip Jar allows patrons to donate “tips” to workers impacted by shuttered establishments through an individual’s personal Venmo or Cash app accounts.
Pandemic Relief Fund – United Way LA
This fund supports vulnerable members of the Greater Los Angeles metro, supporting unsheltered residents, low-income students and their families, and preventing further growth in homelessness.
Dining Bonds Initiative
SupportRestaurants.Org manages a Dining Bonds Initiative, whereby diners can purchase a bond to a given restaurant. This works much like a savings bond, in which you can buy a “bond” at a value rate to be redeemed for face value at a future date (e.g., you can buy a $100 bond for $75). There are 118 total participating restaurants in the U.S., concentrated mostly in Los Angeles, Denver, Atlanta, and New York.
United States Bartender’s Guild (USBG) National Charity Foundation
The USBG’s Bartender Emergency Assistance Program distributes emergency grants to bartenders in need. The USBG fund provides resources for lifelong stability and wellbeing for service industry professionals through education and charitable activities.
Restaurant Workers’ Community Foundation
This foundation donates money directly to organizations leading on-the-ground efforts to help those in the restaurant industry, provide zero-interest loans to businesses to assist re-opening, and establish a relief fund for individual workers facing economic or health hardships.
