Our Spotlight series is where we get to know the people that make the magic happen in our creative collective. Pull up a chair because we’re sitting down for a Q&A with Client Development Director, Tasha Stancill.

Q: What prior experience or interests lead you to Streetsense?

A: I love the creative side of the real estate industry. I have been in a variety of roles throughout my career that have allowed me to focus on the design and marketing side of the business. I have worked at architecture, brokerage, and development firms along the way with a focus on business development, client relations, and marketing oversight. My portfolio of property marketing experience includes all asset classes and projects across the country. Most recently, I have been in the agency world for the last several years, which really expanded my network with brokers, developers, and other real estate contacts. It can be challenging but exciting to work on projects in other markets; you can always learn something new and can bring the best practices from that experience to the next opportunity. That is what energizes me. I’m truly excited to have landed at Streetsense and looking forward to representing such a talented creative team with such a strong brand, portfolio, and reputation!

Q: What do you do in your free time that inspires your work?

A: Getting outside. Nature inspires me and I love being outside when I work out if possible – going for a run down at The Wharf, walking by the water at the beach, or taking a yoga class in the park.  Movement and nature always clear my head and help me think about things objectively. In my mind, I’m always thinking of how to connect dots in terms of business, projects, and prospects. My brain is always in networking and strategy modes. Stepping away from my computer and slowing down is necessary with today’s information overload and hectic schedules. I also like gardening and flowers make me happy.  My little backyard maybe small but I like to spruce is up as much as possible.

I am inspired by taking in all that city has to offer in terms of culture and diversity. It’s fun to attend events like a concert, a new museum exhibit, or a Shakespeare play. My husband and I are also very big DC sports fans and can even walk to Nationals Park from our home for a game! I also try to attend events and check out new real estate projects when I travel. I’m always tracking new developments and projects across the country in my role. So, I usually have a shortlist of projects to check out – anything from a cool new apartment building, a trendy new hotel, or mixed used development with retail and restaurants. It’s a great way to learn more about other markets, take in some best practices, and get the local vibe along with expanding my network of real estate contacts.

Q: What topic, thought, or hobby is piquing your interest right now?

A: Now that it is the fall, I’m excited to get back to more of a routine with life and work. Summer has been great but busy with weekend trips, family obligations and not much time at home. Fall is always a busy time for real estate industry events, and I’m looking forward to reconnecting with my contacts…many of which have become good friends. I am thankful that many industry events tie in with my interests like reading with book clubs, fitness with pickleball or yoga, and networking at a wine tasting.

Q: What’s on your coffee table at home right now?

A: My coffee table has a candle, basket with a print from Portugal, flowers and a pumpkin. Whenever I travel, I get a souvenir that I can incorporate into my home. I went to Portugal two years ago with girlfriends that I have known since the 7th grade. We are longtime friends that reconnected during COVID and committed to a trip once we could all travel again…it was amazing and of course I toured several apartment buildings in Lisbon.

Q: What do you wish you had known when starting out in this industry?

A: How small it can be at times! I ended up in the real estate industry by happenstance. I have a biology degree from college, but my first job was as a marketing assistant for an A/E firm and that launched my path. I have spent a good portion of my career focused on the DC real estate market, but that has expanded over the years. Overall, it has been interesting to see how connected and small the industry can be. One day someone is a client and soon enough you can be theirs.

Networking and industry organization involvement has been such an important part of my career. It’s been pivotal as I have looked for new opportunities for the firm I represent and my professional growth. I am very much a people person and love being a brand ambassador for a team that I truly believe in!
