In October 2023, Managing Director, Continental Europe Maki Kawaguchi spoke at the Tourism Innovation Summit—an event that gathers together the greatest minds to inspire others, encourage disruptive conversations, and create collaborative frameworks for the tourism industry—in Seville, Spain.
In a talk entitled “Reshaping Tourism: The power of placemaking in shaping creative destinations,” Kawaguchi touted placemaking as both a tool for responsible destination creation as well as an experiential marketing tool to differentiate a place. She went on to articulate the importance of sustainable urban regeneration—a movement that goes hand in hand with regenerative, thoughtful tourism that benefits both locals and tourists.
